Wayne A. Owens, Sr. of Tampa passed away Saturday, October 27,
2018. The Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 10,
at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village, 8722 Progress
Blvd., Dr. Sam Maxwell, Sr., Pastor, officiating. Interment will be
held Monday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Florida National Cemetery,
Mr. Wayne A. Owens, Sr. was a native of Tampa, born to Elmer L. Owens,
Sr. and Florence Owens. He accepted Christ at the early age of 10 years
old and he joined First Baptist Church of Progress Village under the
pastorate of Rev. B. T. Williams.
He was educated in the public schools of Hillsborough County and
graduated from Middleton High School in 1971 where he was a
Wayne joined the Army to serve his country for 3 years having served in
Korea and Ft. Gordon, GA. He received an honorable discharge and moved
to Augusta, GA where he worked for the Veterans Hospital. Wayne returned
to Tampa and was employed as a Warehouseman with Pimpco Warehouse, a
dietician with James A. Haley Veterans Hospital and was also a security
guard for several companies.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion and was well known in the
Tampa Bay area. He loved sports and was a smooth dancer. He had two
favorite hobbies - working in his yard and barbecuing.
Wayne leaves to cherish loving memories with: 2 sons, Wayne A. Owens,
Jr. and Horatio Patterson; granddaughter, Taquesha Owens; loving and
devoted mother, Florence Owens; 5 loving sisters, Dr. Cynthia Brown,
Jackie Dupree (Henry), Linda Williams, Sheila Henry (Vincent) and Gail
Owens (Gary); aunts, Teresa Berry, and Edna Kirk; uncle, Pastor Charles
Hill (Pastor Carolyn); sister-in-law, Joan Owens; a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing relatives and friends. A loving
family friend, Beverly Webb and childhood friend, Richard Barr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, from 5-8 p.m. at Ray
Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue. Family and Friends are
requested to assemble at the church on Saturday morning at 10:45 am.
