OBITUARY

A Homegoing Celebration for Dorothy Collington who went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2019, will be held on Saturday,  April 20, at 10 a.m. at  First Baptist Church of Progress Village, 8722 Progress Blvd., with Dr. Otis Hankton of Akron, OH, officiating. 

Dorothy Mae Hankton, also known as "Baby Sister", was born in Birmingham, AL.  She was the only girl and the 4th child born to the late Mr. Charlie Hankton and Ms. Cornelia Oliver. She attended school in Jefferson County, AL. In the 1950's Dorothy moved to Hendersonville, NC where she lived for over 50 years until she moved to Valrico, FL in 2009.   

Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and friends.  While living in North Carolina she was an active member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church as an usher and a member of the Gospel Choir.  She was well-known in the Carolinas as a lead singer of the Gospel Notes.

Upon relocating to Florida she joined the fellowship of First Baptist Church of Progress Village in Tampa and was active in Sunday morning Bible Study class. 

She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Wilbert, Nathaniel and Clarence; daughters, Crystal Dean, Willie Joyce and Odessa; son, Willie Steve; special granddaughter, Carolyn; ex-husband, Willie Brown and her husband, William Collington. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories with: her daughter, Sally Ann Hawkins (Leslie); son, Jeffrey Brown (Chris); step-children, Kent, Jeffrey, Roland, Donna and Debbie; grandchildren, Gerald Mitter (Juhne), Veronica Carter (Daryl), Ivan Scott (Pamela), Regina Clark (Hiram), Dounell Griffin (Tasha),  Dorothy Tiera, Cathy, Shronda, Tawana and Sabrina; great-grands, Condilisa (Clement),  Omar  (Robin), Gerald, Malcom, Duane, Rayne, Maya, Christopher, Alicia, Odesstyni, Isaiah, Hiram Jr., Maya, Micah, Chasmin, Christia, Noel, Sundea, Jalyn, MarQuette (Indika), Sequoia, Dorian (Kharron), Armani, Chante’, Andrea and Jordan;  great-great grandchildren, Chance, Tristian, Elisha, Ge’mya, Dai’lynn, D’laysia, De’laney, Carmelo, Dorian, Naji, Avion, Jacob, Gerald Jr., Aiyana, Camren, Jeremiah, Ronin, Ayden, and Elijah; and a host of other great-great grandchildren not listed; special nieces, Dean, Cornelia, Lois, Ruthie and Hilda; nephew, Otis (Trevette) and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.  Visitation will be held (prior to service) Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village.
