Dorothy Newton of Tampa passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. at
Allen Temple AME Church, 2101 Lowe Street with Reverend Dr. Glenn Dames,
Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories
Mrs. Dorothy Newton was a native of Tampa, Florida and a resident of
Tampa for 94 years. She was educated in the public schools of
Hillsborough County and was a member of Allen Temple AME Church since
July 1936. She was employed as a Private Caregiver.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph J. Newton; her
parents, Wallace and Mattie Floyd-Miller; siblings, Mildred, Florence,
and Wallace Jr.; two nephews, Alfred and Derrick Moore and God-sister,
Alice Gonzalez (Angel Gonzalez) and a host of cousins.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted son/nephew, Jermaine
Thomas; first cousins, Famous C. Floyd, Barbara West, Elsie McArthur,
Mary Frances Williams, Ricky Phillips, and Brenda Lindsay; devoted
sister-in-law, Ms. Beatrice Newton; six nephews, Wesley Shuler (Lori),
Forest Washington (Kim), Clyde Marshall, Fredrick Thomas (Shelia),
Donnell Thomas, and Thomas Stubbs (Linda); four nieces, Brenda Ross,
Christine Moore, Dara Stubbs, and Valerie Kendell; great nieces, Dion
Little (Phelan), Shelathia Thomas, and Kendra Manes (Bismarck); great
nephews, Anthony Moore (Jennifer), Derrick Moore (Temeka), Ronnie
Williams (Michelle), Frederick K. Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Frederick
Salter (Allison), Alphonzo Redmond (Nicole), Kirk Simon Jr., Jose Xavier
Jr., and Terrell Green; 32 great great nieces and nephews; 9 great great
great nieces and nephews; Godchildren, Agnes Mays, Linda Mclean, Edmond
(Linda), Cynthia Keeton (Carol), Shirley Parker, Alice Mary "Scotty"
Gary (Frankie), Amber Love; a host of other relatives and friends and
all of her devoted Lincoln Garden neighbors on Palmetto Street.
The remains will repose after 5 p.m. Friday, October 4 at Ray Williams
Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.
