Essie D. Roberson a long time resident of Tampa passed away Thursday morning May 18, 2017, in her home with her daughter and son-in law by her side.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 25,  at 11 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Institutional Church, 1006 W. Cypress Street.  Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. 

Essie was a native of Jackson, Mississippi and resident of Tampa for over 50 years.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of Elementary Education from Jackson State College and a Master’s degree from University of Tampa.  She was a retired educator of the School District of Hillsborough County, where she served for 30 years with excellence. Essie was an active member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Alpha Omicron chapter and served in many capacities for over 40 years.  Mrs. Roberson served as a Deaconess at New Salem M.B. church and Beulah Baptist Institutional Church for over 25 years. 

She was  pre-deceased by: her husband, Louis Roberson.

She is survived by: her daughter, Varneese Tramel and son-in-law, Joseph Allen Tramel; grandsons, Louis Tramel and Christian Tramel; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lula Hunter; first cousin, Emma Weston (Ms.), and a host of extended family.

The visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 24 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
