OBITUARY

Mr. Lester Powell McKinney of Tampa, Florida passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017.  Viewing will be held 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10th, Memorial services will be conducted immediately after, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Pastor T. D. Leonard, Pastor of Mt. Tabor M. B. Church, Tampa, FL, Officiating, with Pastor George Bradley of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Palmetto, FL, Words of Comfort.  

Mr. McKinney was a native of Bradley Junction, Florida where he attended the Polk County School District, graduating from Mulberry High School in the Class of 1971.   He was a resident of Tampa, for over 40 years. 

Mr. McKinney was employed as a Courier with Federal Express until his early retirement in 2012.

He accepted Christ at a very early age, was baptized and served as a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Bradley, FL for many years.  Additionally, he was a free Mason brother in his Masonic Lodge. 

Mr. McKinney was preceded in death: by his father, William “Bob” McKinney; mother, Jewel Borders McKinney; sister, Christine Hinson; brother, Gillis McKinney; sister, Freddie Woodson-Burton; and sister, Christella Johnson-Joiner. 

He leaves to cherish loving memories to the love of his life: his wife, of 45 years and best friend of 50 years, Reba Nickson McKinney; daughters, Lestra McKinney-Bell (Montaque Foster-friend) and Olivia McKinney-Young (Kevin Young); son, Kellen McKinney (Annamarie McKinney); grands, Deja McKinney, Kevin Young, Jr., Terry Bell, Jr. Diamond Bell, Emerald Bell and Jaia Young; great-grand, Jaslene Bell; sisters, Bessie Tyson (Eddie Sr.), Helen Miller (James Sr.), Mercedes Russell (Larry), and Blanche Chatman (Andrew Sr.); brother, William McKinney (Joann); mother-in-law, Altamease Nickson; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Cotman (Earl); brothers-in-law,  Reginald Nickson and Victor Nickson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Class of 1971 along with special friends, Sam Woodson, John Jackson, Truby Johnson and Al Rock.
