OBITUARY

Ms. Bernice S. Hopkins of Tampa passed away Thursday March 9, 2017.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 1207 N. Jefferson Street with Reverend Dr. Brett Snowden, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Ms. Bernice Sykes Hopkins affectionately known as "Hoppy" was a native of Tampa, Florida and resident for 89 years.  She was the daughter of Cleveland Sykes and Minnie Lee Jones. 

She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County and was a member of Greater Bethel M. B. Church.  Bernice married her loving husband, William Hopkins, Sr. April of 1949.  They were united and blessed in union with four children. 

Ms. Bernice retired as an Registered Nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital - Tampa after 21 1/2 years of service.  She also was employed by the Hillsborough County Senior Service for the past 7 years. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Cleveland Sykes and Minnie Lee Jones; her loving husband, William Hopkins, Sr.; her great grandmother, D. B. Johnson; grandfather, Sam Johnson; four sisters, Rosanne Neal, Cleo Dennis, Juanita and Shirley; beloved son, William "Billy" Hopkins, Jr.; and beloved daughter, Virginia "Annette" Hopkins. 

She leaves to cherish fond memories of love: two sons, Joseph Hopkins (Mary) and Michael Hopkins (Sheila) of Tampa, FL; sisters-in-law, Rachel Allen of Michigan, AL and Clara Hopkins of Tampa, FL; brother-in-law,  Raymond Hopkins (Betty) of Tampa, FL; a devoted nephew, Wayne Brandon Sr., and a devoted niece, Inez Dennis; two devoted great nieces, Valarie Dennis-Cook and Latonya Dennis; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, other relatives and special devoted friends, Fannie Bellamy of Jacksonville, FL, Linda, Cheryl and Barbara, all of Tampa, FL. 

The remains will repose after 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 24 at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue.
